Ellen Terry and the View from Freshwater
Postponed to March 2010 (exact dates to be confirmed)
The chance to take part in an extraordinary weekend at Dimbola Lodge and Farringford on the Isle of Wight
An instructive and diverting weekend to be held at Dimbola Lodge and Farringford at Freshwater. Shortly after his wedding in 1864 G F Watts took his new wife on holiday to the highly fashionable Isle of Wight where they stayed with the idiosyncratic pioneer photographer, Julia Margaret Cameron. This is the starting point for our journey of exploration into Ellen Terry and the microcosm nurtured by Julia at Dimbola Lodge.
The weekend will consist of a variety of talks, a guided tour , a film and an original theatrical performance focussing on both Ellen and Freshwater. Speakers include Katharine Cockin, Brian Hinton, Colin Ford and Veronica Franklin Gould. Topics to be covered by our expert speakers range from "the Freshwater Circle" to Photography as Art.
You can also download the programme here, and see the poster for the event.

Fundraising Dinner
Luck was added to the dinner preparations and came up with a warm summer evening in April. Guests were welcomed with aperitifs and wonderful piano music from Simon Gutteridge. Our guests of honour, among a very honourable and lively bunch, were Ellen Terry Craig and Bunty Taylor, Ellen Terry’s great granddaughters, together with Tony Taylor, Bunty’s husband and a perfect gentleman. Carlo’s cooking was as delicious as ever and the jazzy musical entertainment by Polkadots and Moonbeams, otherwise known as Jack Ross and Karina Fernandez, was a highlight. We were very fortunate to have secured the services of Ricardo (aka Richard White) as our wine waiter and senior waitress Ros Cornford who showed flair and admirable control of her apprentice Francesca, who would definitely get the job.
Thank you to all of you who came to this event and were such essential contributors to its success. We look forward to seeing you all again!
